Sir Elton John is making the film version of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The hit stage musical will be adapted into an animated film, Variety reported, after the singer's company, Rocket Pictures, purchased the film rights.

Rocket Pictures will produce the film alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, who created the musical together in 1968, will executive produce the film.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has earned more than 600 million dollars (£368 million) at the global theatre box office.

Jason Donovan starred in the West End production in 1991, while Donny Osmond featured in a 1999 straight to video film version of the musical.

Rocket Pictures is currently producing Sherlock Gnomes, the sequel to the animated film Gnomeo And Juliet, and is working on the Elton biopic Rocketman, with Tom Hardy set to star as the British singer.
