X Factor musical to be called I Can't Sing!

The stage show - which has been written by Harry Hill with music by Steve Brown - will open at the London Palladium on March 26, 2014, and the comedian is delighted 'X Factor' boss Simon Cowell is backing the production "4,500 per cent".

Harry said: "We'd been umm-ing and ahh-ing about the title for a while, then it hit us - there's never been a musical called 'I Can't Sing!'

"It also happens to be the title of one of the funniest songs in the show, and we hope hints at the direction we're taking this production.

"We think it's also the only musical for a while with a singing hunchback, a talking dog and a man on an iron lung, but we'd have to Google that to be sure. We're pretty certain that you won't have seen anything like it before and it's great that Simon is backing it 4,500 per cent."

Casting for the production is currently underway and director Sean Foley has revealed the musical will feature untapped talent rather than a host of big-name actors.

He added to the London Evening Standard newspaper: "It would be crazy to use a cast of huge big stars. That would undermine the whole idea of the show. We're looking to find stars.

"It's a musical about a musical and it's very, very funny. What we're all aiming for, and Harry said this, is to try and put on the best night's entertainment that anyone's ever done, even if we have to die in the process.

"I think it will surprise people, how old-time theatrical it is. It does have the feel of a classic night at the Palladium."

The production will feature 19 new songs and take an "affectionate poke" at the talent show.

There is a judge called Geordie, who spends most of her time sobbing into a Chelsea football shirt, a reference to former panellist Cheryl Cole - who is from Newcastle and was previously married to Chelsea player Ashley Cole - and there are also caricatures of Simon, and current judge Louis Walsh.
