Richard Griffiths has died aged 65.

The 'Harry Potter' star - who was also known for his roles in 'The History Boys' and 'Withnail and I' - passed away yesterday (28.03.13) after complications following heart surgery at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire.

The British actor - who was awarded an OBE in 2008 - leaves behind his wife of 33 years Heather Gibson.

He was best known for portraying Vernon Dursley in the 'Harry Potter' movie series and Uncle Monty in 1987 comedy 'Withnail and I'.

Richard's latest acting role saw him star alongside Danny DeVito in a revival of Neil Simon's play 'The Sunshine Boys' last year, and he also appeared as King George II in 2011 movie 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' along with Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz.

The actor also had a long TV career which saw him appear in 'The Sweeney', 'Inspector Morse' and 'Pie in the Sky', and he starred in the first episode of Matt LeBlanc's comedy 'Episodes' in 2011.
