Johnny Depp reckons if it wasn't for Tim Burton, he would be "a minor actor working in horror B movies".

The Hollywood star has teamed up with longtime collaborator Tim for the eighth time for new film Dark Shadows, and credited his A-list status to the filmmaker.

"Tim had to fight to give me the lead role in Edward Scissorhands in 1990 when I was still unknown, and he's always stood by me, even when things weren't going well later in my career," he told The Sun.

"If it hadn't been for Tim, I would probably be a minor actor working in horror B movies."

Johnny, who plays vampire Barnabas Collins and co-stars with Eva Green and Chloe Moretz in the film, said he loved the director "like a brother".

"I owe him so much because he believed in me from the beginning. I would play any role in any film that he asked me to do purely out of gratitude," he added.
