Coronation Street is always at its best when it’s slightly bonkers.

And that was certainly the case as David Platt’s family attempted to keep him locked in a cellar underneath Nick’s Bistro to stop him going out and exacting his revenge on Clayton, who – of course – killed his wife Kylie.

Understandably, David wasn’t too happy with his lot as he was held captive by Gail, Nick and Sarah.

Possibly he wasn’t thinking straight.

David had revenge on his mind though, not wine, so he did his best to find a way out.

It was all sort of familiar.

Like Shawshank, this was high drama.

So much so that when his escape attempt hit a brick wall, so to speak, David even let out a cheeky swear.

But if people were shocked at the language, that soon disappeared in the face of an incredible acting tour de force from Jack P Shepherd.

David sat, with his mum on the other side of the locked door, talking her through his plan for taking out Clayton – and taking himself out with him. It was moving stuff.

Sarah was impressed.

And she wasn’t the only one.

We can’t help but agree. Somebody give that man an award.
