A dark, smoky room. A 20-something rapper sits, worn out, on one side of an interrogation table.

“Young Thug?” an officer asks. “No, my name is Jeffery” comes the exasperated response.

This is Young Thug’s latest ploy to build hype for Jeffery, a mixtape for which Thugger has actually changed his name to No, My Name Is Jeffery.

The mixtape drops August 26, but Thug told Travis Scott his name will revert back to what we’ve come to know him as “if I don’t sell a 100,000 copies”.

Explaining further the name change on the same Apple Music radio show, he said: “At the end of this album, everybody’s gonna be like, ‘Your name Jeffery’. There’s no Thuggish songs. There’s cool songs. I got a song on there called ‘Future Swag’ but it’s still Jeffery.”

Thug also appeared to suggest the music on Jeffery is truer to himself than previous work. “I just want to get off of the Slime Season shit because I never had a street mentality,” he said. “I always had a Michael Jackson mentality…The message is to go back to who I really am. I really am Jeffery. That’s really my swag.”
