Beyonce has thanked her fans as she and husband Jay Z wrapped up their On The Run tour.

The XO singer gave a shout-out to the "beautiful" city of San Francisco and their supporters, where the couple played the final North American date on their sold-out joint tour.

"Thank you San Fran! Your city is beautiful. It was the perfect place to complete the best tour of my life! Thank you to all the fans that supported our show. God bless," she wrote on Instagram.

Her post was accompanied by a black-and-white photo of rapper Jay Z holding their two-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, as they headed towards their private plane.

The On The Run tour, which consisted of 19 dates in North America and featured a set-list of over 40 songs, started in Miami on June 25 and will head to Paris for two shows in September.

Meanwhile, Beyonce is to perform at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on August 24, where she will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

The 32-year-old, who leads the nominations for the 2014 ceremony with eight nods, will follow in the footsteps of past recipients of the gong including Madonna, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
