Danny O'Donoghue has revealed it was odd seeing Ricky Wilson take his seat on The Voice.

The Kaiser Chiefs singer took over from The Script frontman when he stepped down from his coaching role on the BBC talent show in 2013, while Kylie Minogue replaced Jessie J.

"I don't know them personally but it was weird seeing somebody else sitting in my chair," he admitted. "I thought they did a great job. Kylie was the stand-out judge of the show and Ricky did a great job."

Danny said BBC bosses would need to bring in another rock star if Ricky decided not to return in the fourth series in 2015.

"It's good to see that position being filled because to not have anyone representing our genre of music on a music TV show would be a crime," the 33-year-old said.

While the singer said he wouldn't reprise his role, he credited it as a learning experience.

" The Voice brought us to the TV audience. We want the most amount of people to hear this music and The Voice was a great vehicle and a catalyst to help us do that. The Voice really helped with cementing who we are and what we are," he said.

Danny, who has been touring and working with The Script bandmates Glen Power and Mark Sheehan, added: "It's freed up a massive part of my creative brain. I had 12 people every year - you have to think about their songs, what they're wearing and the stage. You can try and decompartmentalise that as much as you want but it's still a big toll and a big task.

"To be able to reclaim that part of my brain felt really good, coming back to the foray as a band. More so that I know the work we've come up with has been second to none so it's absolutely the right decision."

The Script's fourth album, No Sound Without Silence, will be released on September 15, preceded by the single Superheroes on August 31.
