HOW many Bonnies does it take to make a Bonnie Raitt LP? Well actually the answer is three.
Bonnie Bishop is the writer of Not Cause I Wanted To, Bonnie Bramlett supplies Ain’t Gonna Let You Go, and of course there is Bonnie Raitt herself.
The nine-time Grammy-winning blues and soul singer with an extraordinary slide guitar technique has delivered yet another album of quality and distinction.
As is traditional in the Raitt camp, Slipstream is mostly a selection of top-drawer covers from the likes of Paul Brady, Loudon Wainwright III and Joseph Lee Henry. In fact, Bob Dylan supplies two songs: Standing In The Doorway and Million Miles.
However, the highlight is probably the reggae-influenced arrangement of Gerry Rafferty’s Right Down The Line, exquisitely executed by Raitt and her formidable team.
