Juan Zelada, High Ceilings & Collarbones (Decca) ****
12:03pm Friday 20th April 2012 in CD reviews By Ian Sime
THOSE lucky enough to have seen Juan Zelada at Fibbers on April 6 will be familiar with his sunshine sound.
The handsome Spaniard is a recent graduate from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and an accomplished pianist and guitarist with an uplifting easy style.
The more adult radio stations have taken up on Zelada’s debut singles, Breakfast In Spitalfields, The Blues Remain and What Do I Know. These songs are similar in feel to Jack Johnson and Ben Folds, and are constructed in the same vein as Peter Allen, so should find an appreciative audience.
If we ever do see the sun again, High Ceilings & Collarbones will provide a perfect soundtrack for the summer nights.
