UP until now, The Big Pink, a collaboration of friends Milo Cordell and Robbie Furze, have been recognisable only for providing the music to an Xbox 360 advert.
That is usually a sure-fire recipe for a one-hit wonder – look no further than the breathtakingly brief career of Babylon Zoo for confirmation – and this duo will be hoping 2009’s Dominos won’t have the same effect.
Adverts are key for The Big Pink, Future This is named after a 1980s skateboard slogan, but it is worrying when the promotional puff for the record insists this effort shows they “still have a hunger” – particularly given it is only their second offering.
It continues largely in the same electronic vein as the opener, sampling looms large but it rather plods along. There’s nothing to match that catchy hook of their TV commercial, leaving listeners wondering whether that will turn out to be their 15 minutes of fame.
