FIFTY years from now, music critics will cite Jennifer Hudson as one of the great soul voices of all-time, up there with Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Whitney Houston.
She really is that good. When Ms Hudson sings, angels cry.
Few vocalists have ever captured in equal measure ecstasy, pain and desire. So special is the Hudson voice that she really could sing nursery rhymes and make them sound like the fruit of forbidden pleasures
. RCA’s own managing director, Clive Davis, has overseen this third solo project, and enlisted the likes of Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and R Kelly for songs suitable for such a valuable asset.
The retro Dangerous, He Ain’t Going Nowhere and I Can’t Describe The Way I Feel, featuring T.I. are head and shoulders better than the competition. But actually the cut-back gospel arrangement of Moan better frames the richness of Miss Hudson’s voice.
