THERE is a raw energy to Pulled Apart By Horses and it’s always nice to hear a Yorkshire band coming through.

The problem is that while the music put out by the Leeds quartet is good, it is so strongly influenced by older acts there’s little to define them.

Standout tracks on Blood include the brilliantly titled ADHD In HD and You Want It, but with Tom Hudson’s vocals coming across like Billy Idol in places, and any number of Seattle-era grunge band wannabes in others, it’s like the Nineties never happened.

Lizard Baby is a different style – markedly less punk than some of the later tracks, and while echoes of Pixies remain, there’s a fun element to much of this album that reminds the listener of bands like The Arctic Monkeys, or even Terrorvision in places.

However, screamed choruses and a healthy amount of punk swearing quickly get Blood back into the bracket their previous albums have been in.

It’s not a bad album, and it’s not a bad bracket to be in, but it’s not outstanding in its field.
