IF, LIKE me, you spend a lot of time in your car listening to the radio then you may have noticed that in between a Rihanna, David Guetta or Rita Ora song there is an explosive two piece from West Sussex threatening to burst out of the speakers.

Royal Blood are about as far away from the mundane and repetitive tracks from the above as possible. Once you realise there are only two people producing their anthemic sounds on a bass guitar and drum kit, the self-titled debut album begins to sink in, and impresses in its own right.

Although essentially an album feeding on dark imagery – blood, cruelty and monsters are all referenced – it’s a record that sets out to be creative through the pair’s frantic music rather than pull on the heartstrings with meaningful lyrics. They have already played Glastonbury and supported Arctic Monkeys, experienced success with singles Little Monster and Come On Over, and an arena tour must come next to complement their massive sound.
