ALTHOUGH Charlie Simpson parted company from Busted well over a decade ago, long term fans would have been besides themselves had the former Uppingham schoolboy joined his old class mates for the high profile reunion McBusted show at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer.

But even back when Simpson was legitimately of an age to be in a boy band, it was clear that his intentions lay in another sphere, and as a teenager his compositions showed a maturity and sophistication way beyond that portrayed by pop factory veneer. A veteran of three Busted CDs, a further five Fightstar sets and now a second solo collection Simpson is now delivering smooth melodic material similar in style to Christopher Cross, Andrew Gold and CSN&Y at their peak.

This genre of music has unkindly been called yacht rock, although the image is perhaps spot on.Too smooth for serious rockers, this 1970s Californian influenced retro collection should impress the yacht club if the title track and Haunted are given the radio airplay they deserve.
