NAMED after the line squealed by the furry character Gizmo in the 1984 movie Gremlins, Bright Light Bright Light is actually a very accomplished nu-disco synthpop artist, Rod Thomas.

The Welsh-born musician actually worked as a busker on the London Underground in his formative years, but Thomas had already caught the ear of Scissor Sisters guitarist Del Marquis for his debut CD Make Me Believe In Hope in 2012. Subsequent tours with the Scissor Sisters and Ellie Goulding helped raise his profile and have resulted in Sir Elton John lending his support by adding vocals to the new single I Wish We Were Leaving.

Unfortunately, the sophisticated house dance track has a hook that bears an annoying resemblance to The Beach Boys’ God Only Knows. Ironically, the tracks without Sir Elton make for a better rounded album. You suspect it will not take long for Rod Thomas to become a household name and ditch the Gremlins catchphrase.
