Although there are several dozen Disco Classic compilations available from the discount racks in garages and supermarkets, most are greatly disappointing, as all they offer nothing new and simply regurgitate the same old songs.
The Disco Recharge series of double discs, which are still available, addressed this issue for satin-anoraks, but this set proved too daunting for a larger audience.
However, this television marketed collection hits the bullseye, and manages to combine the absolute classics, with underground riches, known only to DJs and clubbers of the 70s era. Chic frontman Nile Rodgers is the man behind the mix of 64 carefully segued disco tunes over three discs.
Of course, the collection includes several Chic produced singles including the classic Spacer by Sheila B Devotion, and contributions from Sister Sledge and Diana Ross.
The inclusion of rarer tracks by the likes of Jimmy Bo Horne, Patrice Rushen, Peaches & Herb, Jackie Moore, Mustique and the Michael Zager Band adds extra punch.
