Captain Zippy ready for Bandfest 2012 action
9:10am Monday 7th May 2012 in Music news and reviews
A CELEBRATION of rock and pop music will be held at the Grand Opera House on Friday, June 1, when York Music Service hosts Bandfest 2012.
The show, featuring bands from city schools and York Arts Academy, as well as last year’s winner of Best Of The Bands, Captain Zippy, and York band the Panda Cubs.
Alison Goffin, director of the academy, said: “Sadly, because of the current cutbacks, the council’s Best of the Bands is no longer running. We want to fill that gap by offering the opportunity for an even broader range of young people in York to showcase their talents in a large-scale venue.
“Bandfest is an extension of the work that we do in our York Rocks summer school, and is a celebratory, rather than a competitive event.”
Bandfest starts at 7.30pm on June 1, and tickets cost £6.50 from the Grand Opera House. For more information, email enquiry@yorkmusicservice.co.uk
