Cooope Boyes & Simpson, St Michael’s Church, Coxwold, May 4
10:47am Friday 4th May 2012 in Music news and reviews
COOPE Boyes & Simpson will perform a selection of traditional and contemporary songs, set against the story of novelist Laurence Sterne’s relationship with Eliza Draper, at St Michael’s Church, Coxwold, tonight at 7.30pm.
That Sterne story, Hope Shortens All Journies, encompasses an affair of the heart, a series of intimate letters, a locket and a sea voyage from England to India in 1767.
Tonight’s collaboration between Patrick Wildgust, of the Laurence Sterne Trust, Georgina Boyes and the folk group continues an exploration into music and text that resulted in Songs of Freedom And Oppression.
The exhibition Eliza Draper: Absent Presence, part of the Precious Cargo show in the gallery at Shandy Hall, Coxwold, will be open before the concert. Tickets: 01347 868465. Rum and ginger wine will be served in the interval.
