York choirs in fundraising concert at York Minster

ELEVEN York choirs will combine for a fundraising concert at York Minster on May 19 in aid of Home-Start York.

More than 400 singers will be performing together, making it one of the largest charity events of its kind to be held in the Minster.

Taking part in the 7.30pm concert will be Cansing; New Dawn Harmony Chorus; Easingwold Singers; New Generation Singing Club; Harmonix; Rudgate Singers; Soon Amore Chamber Singers; Supersing; Track 29 Ladies Close Harmony; and York Musical Society.

Their varied concert programme will include evergreen favourites ranging from All You Need Is Love, The Rhythm Of Life and Kumbaya to excerpts from Merrie England.

All proceeds will go to Home-Start York, which offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children.

Richard Baldwin, Home-Start’s chairman, says: “This is the second concert we have performed in York Minster and once again we’re delighted with the hard work and professionalism shown by the choirs, all of whom have so generously and enthusiastically given their time to plan and rehearse, and who are now looking forward to performing in this magnificent venue.”

Welcoming the choirs to the Minster, the Dean of York, the Very Reverend Keith Jones, says: “I’m thrilled that York Minster will once again host a concert to raise funds and celebrate the work of Home-Start in York.

“Home-Start goes to the heart of what many young families need: personal support, friendship and encouragement. It’s locally based, well trained and just the sort of organisation that we need. It really is something to sing about!”

• A few tickets are still available at £10 to £17.50 from the Minster box office, 0844 939 0015 or online at boxoffice.yorkminster.org
