A YORK singer-songwriter has once again set himself an unusual seasonal task – to write a song every day of Advent.
Last year’s project, subtitled Songs On A Godless Guitar, saw Ben Young write an original song, record it, and post it online every day from December 1 to Christmas Eve.
“I saw it as a sort of musical advent calendar,” says Ben. “But not on the usual Christmas themes.”
This year, Ben is to perform his Atheist Advent at Beat Thing, at City Screen’s Basement Bar on Tuesday, at 8pm.
He will add a performance into his songwriting regime, teaming up with York musicians Richard Lane, musicologist Ginevra House and Jamie Bradley.
Politics, winter, families, and a twisted retelling of the legend of St. Nicholas are all promises in this unusual take on Christmas. Alice Garnett, Gustav Thomas, James Brook are also on Tuesday’s bill.
