YORK’S Railway Institute Band has returned from the Northern Open Brass Band Championship with three trophies.
The band impressed judges with its rendition of Diadem Of Gold by G Bailey, to be awarded first place in its division and be presented with the Northern Open Trophy.
Gordon Eddison, the band’s musical director, was also awarded the William Lyon Memorial Trophy, while soprano cornet player Jack Capstaff picked up the Northern Open Certificate for overall best soloist.
Members are now rehearsing hard for their Christmas engagements, of which the first will be at Lidgett Grove Methodist Church, in Wheatlands Grove, York, at 2pm on Saturday, December 11.
