Cimarron, March 20; Uiscedwr, March 22, both at National Centre for Early Music, York

COLOMBIAN seven-piece Cimarron play the National Centre for Early Music, York, tomorrow at 7.30pm as part of their British debut tour.

Hailing from the Orinico plains that stretch from Colombia into Venezuela, they perform joropo music and dance, led by harpist Carlos Rojas.

Joropo is described as a “fast traditional rhythm played on harp, bandola and curato accompanied by bass, cajon and maracas”, as can be heard on Cimarron’s new album, Astar Artes.

On Monday, at the NCEM, the Black Swan Folk Club presents Uiscedwr, the energetic acoustic partnership of Anna Esslemont on fiddle and vocals and Cormac Bryne, from Seth Lakeman’s band, on bodhran and percussion.

Guest musician Nick Waldock will be joining them on guitar and bass for a 7.30pm concert that absorbs classical, rock, world and jazz influences into Uiscedwr’s innovative modern folk music.
