Support acts usually know their place at a gig. They linger nervously around the stage, their croaky vocals waft across an uninterested audience and they spend more time tuning up than playing.

Opening for Panic Room at The Duchess last Saturday, Blaze Camero were a notable exception to the rule as the four-piece played a frantic seven-song set with all the slickness and gusto of a headlining band.

The Knaresborough outift have only just committed their first songs to CD (for release on April 10) but their sound is so tight and so professional that you’d be forgiven for thinking they have been playing together for many years.

Their style is fast and it’s loud but it’s also catchy and melodic and, while there were certain members of the crowd mouthing lyrics, there were also knowing smiles from punters who were hearing Blaze Camero for the very first time.

Starting out on the rock-star road is a tricky proposition in 2010 but Blaze Camero have the skills, they have the tunes and they’re beginning to build a sizeable local support to propel them to the next level.
