Please Please You presents Hayley Hutchinson, Delta Maid, Ali Whitton and Andy Gaines, in The Basement at City Screen, York, on Wednesday at 8pm.
“It’s been a while since York has had the pleasure of a Hayley Hutchinson show, but there’s a new album about to drop this spring – and it’s seriously lovely stuff and a little bit of a departure from previous efforts,” says promoter Joe Coates.
“The music leans towards a more Seventies pop sound; in fact there is more music in general. I’m guessing Mr Sam Forrest [Hayley’s partner] played lots of it – it sounds like it! – as well as writing all the songs on this record.
“Hayley has always been in possession of a beautiful, beautiful voice and this album is certainly her finest to date.”
Liverpudlian Delta Maid returns to The Basement before she heads south to support Turin Breaks with her picked acoustic blues guitar and echoes of smoky Forties jazz clubs.
Ali Whitton will be on his way soon to live in New Zealand. “So come early and hear his great acoustic indie pop before it’s too late,” advises Joe.
Andy Gaines purveys folk music of a very northern nature. “His flag flies high in this city and if you haven’t seen him perform solo, you really should have by now,” says Joe. “He’s an awesome musician who constantly bewilders you with his energy, support and enthusiasm of local music. York is very lucky to have him about.”
Tickets: £4 in advance on 0871 704 2054, picturehouses.co.uk or in person; £5 on the door.
