Soul Survivor is the third single to be lifted off Beverley Knight’s sixth studio album, 100%, and leads off an EP on the Hurricane Records label that also features Turned To Stone and live tracks from her autumn tour.
Co-written by Beverley and Robbie Williams’s former right-hand man, Guy Chambers, Soul Survivor is a defiant, old-school stomp that features a guest turn from mighty soul legend Chaka Khan.
“When me and Guy first wrote this song, I recorded it alone initially but I knew there was another dimension to it – and Chaka was that dimension. She’s incredible,” says Beverley, who goes on to explain the song’s theme.
“Everyone knows there are ebbs and flows in a career in the music industry. People fall in and out of favour all the time. The thing that gets you through is the love of what you do.”
Beverley Knight plays the Grand Opera House in York on April 4. For tickets, phone 0844 847 2322.
