Rehearsals have begun for York Opera’s spring production, Music Fit For A Queen.

This celebration of English opera, comprising Purcell’s Dido And Aeneas and excerpts from Edward German’s Merrie England and Benjamin Britten’s Gloriana, will be staged at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York, on May 13 to 15.

York Opera’s chorus, heard to great effect in Verdi’s Macbeth last October, will be making a substantial contribution in all three pieces and is keen to welcome new members, particularly tenors and basses.

Anyone interested in joining the singing company, either for this production or for Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore at York Theatre Royal in October, should phone 01904 781126.

The same number applies for those keen to join the backstage team. York Opera makes its own scenery and costumes.
