PICKERING will be alive to the sound of jazz from July 22 to 28 for the sixth annual Ryedale Trad Jazz Festival when entertainers from all over the country will descend on the North Yorkshire market town.

Ryedale Jazz Society secretary Wilson Hepplestone says: “We’re looking forward to building on previous successes by again providing established, top-quality ‘circuit’ bands. Tickets are selling well, so if you are thinking of attending, I recommend that you book your tickets now.”

The festival kicks off with the Spirituals Concert featuring Ryedale Jazz Society’s resident band, the Ryedale Jazz band, at St Peter and St Paul’s Church on July 22 at 2.30pm.

The rest of the week’s concerts start at 7.30pm at Pickering Memorial Hall: Manchester’s Harlem Hot Stompers, July 23; New Orleans Heat, July 24; Jubilee Jazz Band, July 25; Tame Valley Stompers, July 26; Dixieland band Tees Valley Jazzmen, July 27, and Mike Lovell and his band, Six-in-a-Bar, July 28.
