AFTER the success of their Acoustic and Folk Mini-Fest in March, the team behind York’s Little Festival of Live Music are seeking 28 music acts to join the main festival line-up in the autumn.

The festival will take place from September 21 to 29, except September 24 and 25, alongside the York Food and Drink Festival in Parliament Street.

Since its formation in 2013, this annual event has given just short of 200 musicians the chance to showcase their talent and provided almost 200 hours of live music to city-centre audiences.

"Our ethos is to offer an inclusive family-friendly event, which has something for everyone to enjoy," says director Ellen Cole. "Many of the acts who have played at the festival have gone on to national tours with other musicians they met through the event or had their first experience on live radio, as well as having the opportunity to showcase their work to an appreciative audience.

"The beauty of our festival is that we welcome applications from all types of musicians regardless of genre, experience, social media following or if you have a long-standing or little reputation. We want our audiences to discover a broad range of talent and we firmly believe that we provide the perfect platform from which to showcase a musician’s work."

Among past participants in the festival are York songwriter Chris Helme, former front man of The Seahorses, East Yorkshire folk musician Edwina Hayes and Heather Findlay, former lead singer of Mostly Autumn, along with York scenesters Boss Caine, The Blueprints, Bull, Rachel Croft, David Ward Maclean and Leather’o. From further afield have come Lincolnshire folk act Ramble Gamble, Londoner Joel Sarakula and Newcastle country-folk group Gilded Thieves.

"To apply to be part of the festival, please email yorkslivemusicfestival@gmail.com with information about your act, your availability during the festival and a high-res image over 500kb in size, as well as links to your music," advises Ellen. The application deadline is 5pm on May 31 and all acts will receive a response by the end of June.
