ELLEN Cole, double award-winning organiser of York’s Little Festival of Live Music, is to run a music residency at the Black Swan Inn in Peasholme Green.

"I've accepted an invitation to put on music events at the pub," says Ellen, who is one of the few female music promoters in York. "They'll be called Eboracum Session and will become a regular fixture in the York music calendar, championing grassroots and independent talent."

Eboracum Sessions will be a Musician Union event designed to provide York audiences with the chance to experience live music at an affordable price. A grant from the Theakston brewery will facilitate entry costing £7 in advance of £8 on the door, subject to availability.

"I never expected to be asked to run events at the Black Swan Inn," says Ellen. "The pub is one of my favourites in York and is already known as a hub of folk music, due to the sheer hard work of the Black Swan Folk Club, run by Roland Walls.

"I've been asked to arrange music for other venues before, but it has never felt right, so I've always declined until now. I'm initially going to host two six-hour events at the Black Swan this year; one on July 28 and the other on October 20.

"The July line-up has nearly been finalised and will showcase the work of acoustic and folk musicians from across Yorkshire. The acts performing are incredible and each will offer a great afternoon and evening of fine music. I cannot wait to see how the events pan out."

In running York's Little Festival of Live Music, Ellen has worked with such acoustic and folk musicians as Edwina Hayes, Heather Findlay, David Ward Maclean, the Duncan McFarlane Band, Joshua Burnell, Dan Webster, Stillhouse and more besides.

The first session's line-up in the upstairs room of the Black Swan on July 28 will be announced shortly and tickets will go on sale at the end of May. Doors will open at 2.45pm for the music bill from 3pm to 9pm.

"Eboracum Sessions will offer a memorable musical experience," says Ellen. "The beauty of the events is that they'll also be family-friendly, so it’s the perfect opportunity to introduce new audiences to live music in a cosy and relaxed environment."

For her role in staging York’s Little Festival of Live Music, Ellen gained the titles of York’s Outstanding Promoter of the Year and York’s Outstanding Contribution to the Community in both the 2016 and 2017 Yorkshire Gig Guide Awards.
