YORK singer-songwriter Alistair Griffin is going global with his song Just Drive.

"Already the main titles theme on Sky Sports F1 in Britain, it's now been picked as the theme tune for Formula One motor-racing coverage in America by ESPN," says a delighted Alistair, who performed a headline set at last summer's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

"Just Drive has become a favourite with motorsport fans around the world. It's one of those songs that has a life of its own; it's grown and grown and now it's going to be heard by a new audience in the United States."

After Sky made Just Drive its Formula One theme in 2012, Alistair was signed by Dramatico Records, the label that promotes Katie Melua, and he went on to release the album Albion Sky that year. "There's been interest from labels in America too this time round," he says, although he prefers to keep his cards close to his chest over what might ensue. "Formula One is a global sport, so when something like this lands, there's always potential to springboard a release off the back of it. I've had a few calls but I haven't booked my plane ticket yet."

Alistair, who was brought up in the North York Moors village of Castleton, penned Just Drive while staying in Robin Hood's Bay one weekend, "I may head back to the for inspiration," says the 40-year-old songwriter. "Who doesn't love Robin Hood's Bay? I don't go in much for arty writing trips but something definitely inspired me that weekend."

Just Drive, from the album Albion Sky, is available on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon.
