CHILDREN and parents braved the weekend's Siberian snow and ice-cold conditions to attend the audition day at Manor C of E Academy for York Musical Theatre Company’s Stage Experience summer school production of the Broadway teenage musical 13.

On Sunday, the children acted, sang and danced all day in front of a panel of judges: Stage Experience director Richard Bainbridge, YMTC regular director Paul Laidlaw and dance captain Anna Mitchelson.

The YMTC Stage Experience will take place in August at the John Cooper Studio Theatre at 41 Monkgate, York, where the children will be learn how to mount a musical in two weeks, when the fortnight will ending with five performances of 13.

"There were so many talented children on the day that the company felt that all the children deserved to have a Stage Experience place and a part in the show, so they’ll all be appearing on stage on August," says director Richard Bainbridge.

"We were blown over by the talent and enthusiasm and skills of the children taking part. They all brought something to the audition day, whether that be dance skills, singing skills or putting real character and emotion into the parts already. They were all so brilliant and worked so hard, they really did all deserve a place. We just can’t wait to get started with them all in August and see what they can do."

The York Musical Theatre Company Stage Experience will start with a singing day on July 14 before the two-week summer school begins on August 19.
