THE Demon Barbers XL will headline the Saturday night main stage at the 35th anniversary Beverley Folk Festival on June 16 at Beverley Racecourse.

Praised by folk legend, radio presenter and festival patron Mike Harding as "one of the best live bands" he has ever seen, the Yorkshire musicians and dancers will bring high energy and anarchy to their home turf this summer, as witnessed at Glastonbury and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Led by Damien Barber, these winners of the Best Live Act at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards are returning to the Beverley event after their sold-out performances of The Lock In, parading new repertoire, extra band members and a modern twist on their award-winning Demon Barbers Roadshow.

Clog, sword, hip hop and break-dancing all will feature in the Demon Barbers' June 16 performance and the festival organisers "can’t wait to welcome them back to Beverley".

Artistic programmer Kelly Foley says: "The Demon Barbers XL are modern folk music heroes, drawing on traditional music, while adding a great rhythm section, drums and bass. They blow away the old stereotype of some folk music being quaint or dour. They are anything but! The Demon Barbers are 21st century folk rock at its best and we can guarantee audiences an amazing night of music."

Running from June 15 to 17, Beverley Folk Festival is a family-friendly event with children’s activities, open-air entertainment, a craft marquee, a food court and real ale. Such is the popularity of The Demon Barbers XL that festival-goers are advised to buy tickets well in advance, whether a full weekend ticket, Saturday ticket or single concert ticket, at beverleyfestival.com/ or on 07568 593960.

Selected tickets bought before March 21 are part of the festival’s Winter Warmer offer, with prices rising after that date. More details on the line-up can be found on the festival website.
