STEVEN Adams, former frontman of The Broken Family Band, The Singing Adams and Singing Adams, has axed his middle name James and formed a new group, The French Drops.

At the invitation of York promoters Please Please You, Adams and co will play The Fulford Arms, in Fulford Road, on May 5 in his first appearance in York since topping the bill in Steven James Adams guise at Please Please You's musical party at Millers Yard, off Gillygate, in September 2015.

"One of our favourite ever songwriters has assembled a killer new band to tour the nation to his adoring fans," says gig booker Joe Coates. "The new Steven Adams & The French Drops album will be released the day before this show, so let’s all celebrate in some fine style."

In the wake of his intimate 2016 solo album Old Magick and several years of one-man shows, Adams has been joined by Daniel Fordham and David Stewart, the rhythm section for psych-folk oddballs The Drink, and guitarist Michael Wood, from Singing Adams, The Leaf Library and Hayman Kupa Band, plus a rotating cast of guest musicians. Together they have made the album Virtue Signals, ready for action on vinyl, CD and computers from May 4.

Tickets for May 5 cost £8 in person from The Fulford Arms, Earworm Records in York, Jumbo Records in Leeds or at pleasepleaseyou.com.
