SIR Tom Jones will perform on the green, green grass of York Racecourse for a second time this summer.

The 77-year-old Welsh powerhouse singer and talent-mentoring senior coach on ITV's The Voice first played the Music Showcase Weekend on July 24 2015 and will return to the Knavesmire course on July 27 to sing after the Friday evening racecard.

The line-up for this summer's music and racing dates at York Racecourse is now complete, after London pop and soul singer Paloma Faith was announced for the Summer Music Saturday on June 30 and Irish "boy band" Boyzone for the Music Showcase Saturday on July 28 in their 25th anniversary year.

Sir Tom, who released his most recent studio albums Spirit In The Room in 2012 and Long Lost Suitcase in 2015, will no doubt perform such hits as It's Not Unusual, Green, Green Grass Of Home, Delilah, What's New Pussycat, Kiss and Sex Bomb.

Looking back to look forward, Sir Tom said: "The York races crowd were tremendous on my last visit, I've always loved outdoor shows and it's always lovely to be asked back. We're going to have some fun."

That only tells half the story of that July day because it was touch and go whether Sir Tom would be able to perform. He had to cancel concert appearances at Saint Tropez, France, and near Munich in Germany that week after suffering a respiratory infection, but he Tweeted the day before his Music Showcase concert to announce the going was good after all for York.

To book tickets for the July 27 raceday and concert, go to yorkracecourse.co.uk or call 01904 620911. Admission to the main grandstand and paddock enclosure starts at £25 per person for a group of six, while racegoers aged five to 17 enjoy a special rate of £10, subject to limited availability.

As for the racing that day, the British European Breeders Fund Lyric Stakes will be the centrepiece of a six-race evening card that will precede Sir Tom's concert. James Brennan, head of Marketing and sponsorship, said: "Everyone at the course has really special memories of the last gig Sir Tom did for us; it gives us something to look forward to."
