COMMEMORATING the 25th anniversary of the release of The Bodyguard, I Wish You Love offers alternative remixes and live versions of the six songs Whitney Houston recorded for the landmark movie.
Of these, the original album scored Whitney five chart-topping singles. I Will Always Love You, I Have Nothing, I’m Every Woman, Run To You, Queen Of The Night and the spiritual Jesus Loves Me have have been revisited and refreshed here on a standard CD or two-disc violet-coloured vinyl.
It is now impossible not to associate Whitney Houston, unquestionably at the zenith of her powers, with playing the role of Rachel Marron opposite Kevin Costner in the musical thriller. Yet in development, in the mid-Seventies, the film was intended as a vehicle for Diana Ross and Steve McQueen.
History, however, has proven that The Bodyguard most certainly belonged to Whitney. However, this lovingly restored set proves yet again the needless cruel loss to the world of a world-class talent.
