ABBA never released a Christmas single, but the wintry Swedes did come close. Happy New Year, from 1980's super-douper Super Trouper album, had a working title of Daddy Don't Get Drunk On Christmas Day.
Might Abba Mania make mention of this Abba fact at Friday's tribute gig at York Barbican? Who knows, but you will be sure to hear Mamma Mia, Voulez Vous, Dancing Queen, Winner Takes It All, Waterloo et al.
By the way, Abba did once sing a Christmas song on a West German radio show hosted by Mal Sondock in 1981. They chose a perennial Swedish Christmas favourite, Nu Ar Det Jul Igen (Now It's Christmas), and the recording eventually made its way on to a compilation album, Carols For The Cure, Volume 13, in 2011.
Tickets for Friday's 7.30pm show are on sale at £11.20 to £21.28 on 0844 854 2757, at yorkbarbican.co.uk or from the Barbican box office in person.
