GARY Barlow will make his Scarborough Open Air Theatre debut on June 22 next year on the Take That singer and songwriter's solo tour.

The East Coast resort already holds a special place in Barlow's heart, after he played the now-closed Futurist Theatre on the Take That And Party Tour that catapulted the Manchester boy band to superstar status in 1992.

He returned to the same venue as a solo artist in 2013 and in 2015 he and his playwright friend Tim Firth penned the song Scarborough for the musical comedy The Girls, premiered at the Leeds Grand Theatre that autumn before a West End run earlier this year with its story of Yorkshire’s WI Calendar Girls.

Barlow last undertook a solo tour in 2014; next year, he will be on his travels from April 16 to June 23, taking in Hull City Hall on April 23 and 24. Hull and Scarborough tickets are on sale at ticketmaster.co.uk and on 0844 844 0444; Scarborough, also at scarboroughopenairtheatre.com, in person from Scarborough Open Air Theatre box office and the Discover Yorkshire Coast Tourism Bureau, or on 01723 818111 or 01723 383636.
