NEW Zealand singer-songwriter Kane Strang heads to York with his breezy, bouncy guitar pop for an 8pm gig at The Basement, City Screen, on Saturday.
His first album proper, Blue Cheese, picks up on the rough disaffection of his earlier demo collection, A Pebble And A Paper Crane, which he recorded in a Second World War bomb shelter in Germany.
Back in his hometown of Dunedin, Strang spent two curious months alone, housesitting for his parents. Re-nested, yet still isolated, Strang composed all of Blue Cheese over those quiet days.
Strang is already picking up strong international interest: as well as the Flying Nun release of Blue Cheese, he has signed to Badabing Records in New York and Secretly Canadian Publishing too.
Tickets for Saturday's Please Please You-promoted gig cost £7 in person from The Basement, or from Earworm Records in York and Jumbo Records in Leeds, or online from pleasepleaseyou.com or on the door.
