A BIG star in her native France, Camille Dalmais has a rich and varied back catalogue.
Oui is the seventh glorious solo album, but also worth searching out are guest appearances on albums by Nouvelle Vague and the soundtrack of Pixar’s Ratatouille, and many will remember Camille’s musical contribution to the Cacharel Promesse television ad. Camille also performed Benjamin Britten’s rather challenging Ceremony of Carols in concert throughout Europe.
Oui will bewitch audiences captivated by Christine And The Queens’ work. The album is a master-class in understated glamour and sophistication. A gorgeous yet stark collection of dreamy ballads and a cappella lullabies, Oui demands to be heard without interruption.
Even if your French is rather sketchy at best, please enjoy Sous le sable, Fontaine de Lait, Fille a Papa and Je Ne Mache Pas Mes Mots, each oozing deliciously from the speakers. Only the lead single Seeds is sung in English. What great irony that contemporary French chanson has only found an audience in the UK in the midst of Brexit.
