IF vocal harmony trio Blake and soprano Joanna Forest were not bright enough stars already booked to illuminate the Castle Howard Proms stage on August 19, a laser display will dazzle at the al-fresco concert too, choreographed in time to the rousing sounds of the London Gala Orchestra.

This will be the first time lasers have been used at this annual event, promising a light show over the Great Lake that will form an "unrivalled backdrop" to the next week's concert.

The lasers' red, green and blue beams are among the brightest to be used for entertainment purposes in Britain and can be seen up to eight miles away.

"Regulars to our Proms will already be looking forward to the Spitfire flyover and firework display, but the lasers promise to add something new and stunning to the show," says marketing manager Rachel Underwood.

The music selections have been finalised to include a host of songs, traditional and modern, perfect for flag-waving, from Jerusalem, the Dambusters theme and Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance No. 1, to more modern numbers such as David Bowie’s Life On Mars, Westlife’s You Raise Me Up and Bring Him Home from Les Misérables.

"The Castle Howard Proms are one of the most prestigious events in North Yorkshire’s social calendar and we’ve worked incredibly hard to make it accessible to people of all ages, from children to grandparents," says Rachel. "Whether you're planning on bringing a dining table and chairs to enjoy an outdoor silver-service banquet with a black-tie dress code, or deckchairs and a rug for a less formal jeans, T-shirt and jumper evening, this night is what you make it. With children’s tickets at just £5 each, it really is a family-friendly event.”

Gates open at 6pm; the main programme starts at 7.30pm and finishes at 10pm. Tickets can be booked at £32.50, children aged five to 16, £5, under fives, free, at castlehoward.co.uk. Tickets on the night are subject to availability and cost £38, children £5.
