THE three horsemen of folk's resurgence, Lau, pause to mark ten years.
Since they burst on the scene in 2007, they have picked up every gong going and gained an ardent live following.
This double disc set is packed full of riches and the playing goes a long way to capturing their concert aura. Never a singles band, many of the tunes stretch out with The Lang Set a minor symphony on its own.
Kris Drever has a voice that can please both purest and granny but he often plays second fiddle to Martin Green and Aiden O’Rourke’s lyrical wizardry.
This genuinely qualifies as the benchmark for the genre. This Best Of polishes off the more experimental edges, although it avoids the obvious, and overdoes the instrumentals, which is arguably Lau’s point.
Plus all compilations should be docked a star for lack of imagination. Grouches aside, Decade is a warm-hearted entry point to these Anglo-Scots with an autumn tour in the offing.
