ALISTAIR Griffin's family-friendly Whitby Rising Music Festival takes place at Stripes Farm, Hawsker Lane, Whitby, on Saturday.

Now in its second year, the festival is the brainchild of York singer-songwriter Griffin, whose line-up includes two alumni of The Voice, Scottish harp player Anna McLuckie and York singer Beth McCarthy, plus Griffin himself, Queen tribute Kings Of Queen and local acts.

Griffin, who went to school in Whitby, says: "We launched the festival last year and had a great day; this year it’s bigger and better, more bands, more variety, more things for kids to do and a new site not far from Whitby Abbey. We’ve also added the option to camp overnight, so people can experience that authentic festival vibe.”

The live music will be spread across two stages. "We're bringing some fantastic acts together, including Battle of the Bands winners, plus some great local talent, as well as a mixture of music to keep everyone entertained from 11am, when the gates open, to midnight, when you can join me and the acts with songs around the campfire," says Griffin.

"People can look forward to some great festival food and drink, including the ever popular Prosecco Bar and a special Whitby Rising Ale courtesy of Whitby Brewery, ice cream, milkshakes, cakes and treats and more. Plus there’s lots to keep the kids entertained, including foam parties, trampolines, five-a-side football, drumming workshops and face painting."

Tickets are available at thelittleboxoffice.com/whitbyrising or in person at Abigails, in Flowergate, Whitby. "Tickets are limited, so buy them now," advises Griffin, who points out that accompanied children may attend for free. All the festival details can be found at facebook.com/WhitbyRising "We want everyone to have a great time and to firmly put Whitby on the music and festival map," he adds. "We hope people come from far and wide to see what's on offer."
