YORK Unitarians' Last Fridays series presents bass-baritone John Nancarro and pianist David Hammond at the St Saviourgate Unitarian Chapel, York, on July 28.
This lunchtime concert is a rare opportunity to hear Schubert Lieder in the form of the first 12 songs from Winterreise and provides an introduction to the Lied or “art-song form that Schubert did so much to perfect.
John Nancarro is a retired chief executive officer who came to singing rather late, studying with Linda Bird in Miami. He has been working for some time with York accompanist David Hammond, not least performing Schumann Lieder together in the chapel.
Tickets for next Friday's 12.30pm concert cost £6, concessions £4, on the door.
