THE Press has long championed Danny & The Champions Of The World, and even ex-pat Aussie band leader Danny George Wilson's previous band, Grand Drive.
The Champs formed around Wilson in London in the summer of 2007 and a decade later they have made their best album yet. Make that a double album, all 18 tracks of it, plus, apparently, a bonus set of instrumentals absent from the promotional copy sent northwards.
Eighteen tracks are more than enough anyway, as Wilson and co maximise their well-honed craft for singing the blues, soul and rock so wholeheartedly. Wilson compares the listener's experience with taking a peek into somebody's house.
"There's great stuff that immediately grabs your attention and then there's other stuff and your start out thinking it might be a bit mundane, but as the whole picture takes shape it proves to be incredibly beautiful," he says. From Swift Street to Everything We Need, Brilliant Light is the Champs' answer to Exile On Main Street.
