THE 60th anniversary of Stax Records is being marked in a year-long salute to the iconic American soul label by Rhino Records.

The Stax 60 celebration kicks off with curated collections of timeless hits from the legendary artists who helped the Memphis label to earn its nickname of Soulsville USA. Step forward value-for-money Stax Classics sets by Otis Redding, Carla Thomas, Sam & Dave and Booker T and The MG's on CD, digital download and streaming services.

Simultaneously, Rhino's partners in this stack of Stax compilations, the Concord Music Group, are issuing sets by William Bell, The Dramatics, Isaac Hayes, Albert King, The Staple Singers and Johnnie Taylor.

Rhino will continue the Stax 60th anniversary celebrations over the summer with tomorrow's release of Booker T & The MG's Green Onions, Rufus Thomas's Walking The Dog and Sam & Dave's Soul Men on 180-gram vinyl. A gold-coloured 50th anniversary edition of Otis Redding and Carla Thomas's King And Queen will be coming out tomorrow too.

On July 7, again on 180-gram vinyl, come The Soul Album and The Great Otis Redding Sings Soul by Otis Redding; Double Dynamite by Sam & Dave; Carla by Carla Thomas; Hip Hug-Her by Booker T & The MG's and Born Under A Bad Sign by Albert King.
