PEGGY Seeger has had to call off all her concert dates in May and June, including her June 7 show at The Crescent Community Venue in York. However, she will now perform there later in the year in An Evening With The Seeger/MacColl Family on November 27.

“I’m so disappointed to have to postpone the spring tour but I’ve been advised to rest for a couple of months," explained the New York City-born folk singer, who has lived in Britain for more than 30 years. "As you may know, I’m not very good at taking advice but I think it’s for the best.”

By the time of her rescheduled concerts with Neill MacColl and Calum MacColl, 81-year-old Peggy will be back to full fitness and her autobiography, First Time Ever: A Memoir, will be in the shops, published on October 5 by Faber & Faber.

The Seeger MacColl family are one of folk music’s most loved dynasties. Singer, songwriter and feminist icon Peggy will be performing in York with Neill and Calum, her sons with the late Ewan MacColl, who wrote The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face for Seeger, so the story goes, after she asked him to pen a song for a play she was in.

The Seeger MacColl trio promise a "gloriously relaxed evening of great music and witty family banter". Expect to hear songs of love, politics and storytelling, including selections from Peggy’s award-winning 2014 album, Everything Changes, alongside Ewan MacColl’s best-loved songs.

Tickets for this 7.30pm concert are on sale at £18 at pleasepleaseyou.com or in person from The Inkwell, in Gillygate, York, and Jumbo Records in Leeds.
