SLACK Habits is the snappier new name for These And The Other Guy, the York purveyors of blues, rock and smoky ballads now led by Alice Wilson, she of the Mohawk haircut.

After offering a taster of their new material with Alice on the February single The Other Woman, the refreshed line-up will make their live debut at Lendal Cellars on July 14 as part of the Originals Night at the brick-arch cellar off St Helen’s Square, York.

The video gained Slack Habits a small army of new Facebook fans, while the single was picked up by BBC Radio Newcastle and numerous other radio stations soon followed suit.

Songwriter Andy Wilson – no relation – says: “When Alice joined the band, we decided to change our name to something that gives a better sense of what kind of band we are. It was a risk so we were excited when the single went down so well and now we’re really looking forward to playing live again. It’s been ages, but Alice is such an amazing front for the band that it’s been worth the wait.”

Alice, whose voice carries a raw intensity that recalls the late Amy Winehouse, has a background in musical theatre, making it the “perfect fit with Slack Habits’ blend of blues and passion, rock and cabaret”.

The band combine blues-rock with hints of reggae and funk and perform mostly original material but sometimes throw in the occasional cover too. Their video for The Other Woman can be viewed at youtube.com/watch?v=WNZ3afZ0Kuo.

Admission to their 8pm gig on July 14 will be free.
