THE Yamato Drummers of Japan are "pushing themselves to their absolute limits with their most visually spectacular, highly energetic and explosive show yet", The Challengers.

Visiting the Grand Opera House, in York, tonight as part of a 22-city British tour, the drummers are on the road after a run at The Peacock in London, almost 20 years since their West End debut in 1998.

Founded in Japan's Nara Prefecture in 1993, the Yamato Drummers tour the world for six to ten months every year, presenting original Yamato compositions built around Japanese Taiko drumming. Over the past decade of touring, they have played to more than six million people at 3,000 performances in 53 countries.

"Our greatest goal is to send audiences home after each performance with a new vitality and passion for life," says the Yamato Drummers. "As we continue to tour and perform throughout Japan and around the world, whether in concerts, classrooms, school assemblies or workshops, our troupe will continue to cherish and uphold Yamato, the spirit of Japan."

Promoted by Knock On Entertainment, tonight's two-hour show starts at 7.30pm; tickets are on sale at £18.50 upwards at atgtickets.com/york or on 0844 871 3024.
