THE nostalgic musical Dreamboats And Petticoats pops into the Grand Opera House, York, from Tuesday until Saturday on its tenth anniversary tour.

This Olivier Award-nominated show is the work of Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, the writers of Goodnight Sweetheart, Birds Of A Feather, The New Statesmen and Shine On Harvey Moon.

The setting is 1961, when emotions run high as young musicians Norman and Bobby compete to win a national song-writing competition and, more importantly, the attention of the gorgeous Sue. Once Bobby discovers that shy Laura is no slouch on the piano, however, love and rock'n’roll fame beckon.

Produced by Bill Kenwright and Laurie Mansfield, in association with Universal Music, the show features Jimmy Johnston as Older Bobby/Phil; Alistair Higgins, Bobby; Alistair Hill, Norman; Elizabeth Carter, Laura, and Laura Darton, Sue, performing the music of Roy Orbison, The Shadows, Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury and more besides.

Here cast member Elizabeth Carter gives quick answers to quick questions, asked by Charles Hutchinson.

When did you join the Dreamboats And Petticoats cast and what attracted you to the role of Laura?

"I first played Laura in 2012 and I'm returning to the role for this year's tour. I love the role of Laura because I can really relate to her when I was her age."

The show is celebrating its tenth anniversary. What are the ingredients that make it so popular?

"I think it's so popular because the story is very relatable, funny and it's packed with wonderful Fifties and early Sixties' hits that transport people back to that time."

Before Dreamboats And Petticoats, were you a fan of vintage rock’n’roll and its fashion style already? If so, whose music do you most enjoy and why?

"I hadn't really explored the genre before I began the show but now I absolutely love it. The music is so infectious. I love Lesley Gore's music; I love that she was one of the first women to lead the way at that time."

Which songs are your big numbers in Dreamboats And Petticoats?

"To Know Him Is To Love Him, Who's Sorry Now and Let It Be Me."

Would you have liked to have lived in the rock’n’roll era?

"Definitely! It's a party!"

Have you performed in York previously? If so, what in, where and when?

"Yes, I first performed in York when I was originally in Dreamboats And Petticoats and have since returned with Save The Last Dance For and Dreamboats And Miniskirts. I love York and I'm very much looking forward to coming back to perform there again this week."
